From an early age in to her teens Mary de Piro studied Ballet under the watchful eye of Princess Natalie Poutiatine at the Russian Ballet Academy in Malta. This influence of discipline, emotion and expression in movement had a profound effect and has stayed with Mary de Piro all her life.

The paintings and drawings attempt to reflect the vibrancy, colour and physical prowess of the dancers portrayed.
